Tottenham Poised to Hijack Liverpool’s Deal for Federico Chiesa Amid Club Bankruptcy
Tottenham Hotspur looks set to beat Liverpool to the signature of highly-rated Italian winger Federico Chiesa, according to reports. Ange Postecoglou is a huge admirer of the Juventus star, who scored nine goals and provided two assists last season. Known for his speed, dribbling, and composure, Chiesa was a standout performer for Italy during their Euro 2020 victory and has been key for Juventus in recent seasons.
These attributes have made the 26-year-old a prime target for Liverpool, who are still waiting for their first signing under new manager Arne Slot. Premier League runners-up Arsenal have also shown interest in Chiesa to bolster their attacking options alongside Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka.
Meanwhile, Liverpool is also pushing to sign 17-year-old wonderkid Mathys Angely from Bordeaux. Angely, a highly-rated center-back, has represented France at the U16 and U17 levels and has been praised for his composure in possession and leadership skills. He made five appearances last season as Bordeaux finished 5th in Ligue 2.
Due to financial difficulties, Bordeaux has filed for bankruptcy and will be relegated to the third tier of French football for the first time since 1936. This situation could allow Liverpool to acquire Angely for free, as all professional players will be released at the end of their contracts.
Reports suggest Juventus is looking for a quick sale of Chiesa, who may not fit into new boss Thiago Motta’s system, for a cut-price fee of around £25 million. This provides Tottenham with an opportunity to secure a significant signing ahead of their rivals.
