Alcaraz Stays Optimistic Amid Court Changes

Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz remains confident about adapting to the conditions at Indian Wells, despite noticing that the courts are ‘faster’ this year. The 21-year-old is already regarded as one of the best players in men’s tennis, alongside Italy’s Jannik Sinner.

Alcaraz, who is defending his title for the second consecutive year, recently expressed his thoughts on the court conditions:

“The court is a little faster, yes. It’s something I didn’t understand when I saw it. This tournament has been played on the same surface for 25 years, but now it has changed. I don’t know the reason, honestly. I will have to train to see it, although I consider myself a player who adapts well. I think I play tennis very well, even if the courts are a little faster.”

Alcaraz’s Recent Form

Alcaraz enters Indian Wells following an inconsistent start to the season. His Australian Open campaign ended in disappointment after a quarterfinal loss to former world No. 1 Novak Djokovic (4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-4). Despite winning the first set, he couldn’t capitalize on Djokovic’s fitness struggles, which later forced the Serbian to withdraw from the semifinals.

His most impressive performance this year came at the ATP Rotterdam Open, where he clinched the title by defeating Australia’s Alex de Minaur (6-4, 3-6, 6-2). However, his momentum was halted at the Qatar Open, where he suffered a quarterfinal exit to Jiri Lehecka (6-3, 3-6, 6-4).
