Novak Djokovic has returned to winning ways at the Brisbane International, claiming his first singles victory in almost three months. However, fans were curious why his newly-appointed coach, Andy Murray, was not present to support him.
Djokovic on Murray’s Absence
The Serbian tennis legend revealed that Murray, his former rival and now coach, is currently on a family skiing trip. Despite the physical distance, Djokovic emphasized their regular communication:
“He is actually skiing at the moment. He has a family skiing trip. Sending my love to all the Murray family. I hope he doesn’t get injured skiing before he comes to Melbourne!”
Djokovic also expressed excitement about their new collaboration, highlighting the uniqueness of their partnership:
“For 20-plus years he has been across the net; for the first time ever, we are on the same side of the court. It should be fun in Melbourne.”
Preparing for the Australian Open
Djokovic and Murray will officially team up at the 2024 Australian Open, where the Serbian will aim to win his record-extending 25th Grand Slam title and 11th Australian Open trophy.
