Nick Kyrgios has condemned the handling of high-profile doping cases involving Grand Slam champions Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek, calling them “disgusting” for the sport.

Sinner Faces Ongoing Suspension Threat

Italian world number one Jannik Sinner remains under scrutiny after testing positive for an anabolic steroid, clostebol, in March. While the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) initially cleared him, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) appealed the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

Swiatek’s One-Month Ban for Contamination

Former women’s world number one Iga Swiatek served a one-month suspension in August after testing positive for trimetazidine (TMZ). The ITIA accepted that her positive result was due to contamination from the regulated non-prescription medication melatonin. Her suspension ended on 4 December.

Kyrgios Slams Tennis Authorities

Australian star Nick Kyrgios, 29, voiced his frustration over the incidents:

“Two world number ones both getting done for doping is disgusting for our sport. It’s a horrible look.”

He criticized the inconsistent handling of cases, adding:

“The tennis integrity right now is awful. Everyone knows it, but no one wants to speak about it.”

Double Standards?

The treatment of Sinner and Swiatek has drawn comparisons to Simona Halep’s case. The two-time Grand Slam champion accused authorities of applying “completely different approaches” to her doping allegations.

However, the ITIA firmly denies any discrepancies in its processes.

Kyrgios Returns to Action in Brisbane

After an 18-month injury hiatus, Kyrgios is set to compete at the Brisbane International. He will face Frenchman Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in singles and partner Novak Djokovic in doubles.

Djokovic, currently chasing his 100th Tour-level title, adds further excitement to the tournament lineup.
