Sinner Retains Massive No. 1 Lead, Dimitrov Rises, Shelton Plummets In ATP Rankings

Jannik Sinner continues to dominate as the World No. 1 in the latest ATP rankings, while Ben Shelton experiences a significant drop.

Sinner’s Stronghold at No. 1

Sinner has held the No. 1 spot since the conclusion of the French Open, where he surpassed Novak Djokovic. His rise began after winning the Australian Open, Rotterdam Open, and the Miami Open earlier this season.

The Italian further extended his lead by defeating Taylor Fritz in the US Open final and securing two additional Masters-1000 titles at the Canadian Open and the Shanghai Masters.

Sinner now sits on 11,920 ranking points, maintaining a 4,800-point lead over Carlos Alcaraz, who holds the No. 2 spot. Neither player saw a change in points in the latest rankings update.

Sinner participated in the Six Kings Slam last week, an exhibition event in Saudi Arabia, which offered no ranking points. However, the 23-year-old walked away with a stunning $6 million prize after defeating Alcaraz in the final.

Top 8 Rankings Remain Unchanged

There were no ranking changes among the Top 8 players:

• Alexander Zverev stays at No. 3
• Novak Djokovic remains at No. 4
• Daniil Medvedev, who lost to Sinner in Saudi Arabia, holds No. 5.

Dimitrov Rises, De Minaur Drops

Grigor Dimitrov climbed one spot to No. 9 after reaching the final of the Stockholm Open, where he finished runner-up to Tommy Paul, now ranked No. 12.

Both Dimitrov and Paul still have a shot at qualifying for the ATP Finals. Paul trails Andrey Rublev, who currently holds the final qualifying spot, by 485 points, while Dimitrov is 520 points behind Rublev.

Meanwhile, Alex de Minaur fell to No. 10 after his early exit at the European Open in Antwerp, where he lost to Hugo Gaston in three sets. De Minaur remains in the race for the ATP Finals.

Djokovic’s ATP Finals Hopes Boosted

The recent struggles of Casper Ruud and Andrey Rublev in Stockholm have given Dimitrov and Paul renewed hope for the ATP Finals, while also boosting Djokovic’s chances of securing a spot in the year-end tournament.

Shelton and Monfils Plummet in Rankings

Ben Shelton, who once joked that playing against Rafael Nadal in his final match would be a nightmare, dropped six places from No. 17 to No. 23 after failing to defend his points from last year’s Japan Open victory.

Similarly, Gael Monfils saw a significant drop, falling from No. 41 to No. 52 after not defending his 2023 Stockholm Open title.

Bautista Agut’s Big Jump

Spanish veteran Roberto Bautista Agut made a big leap in the rankings, climbing 15 spots from No. 60 to No. 45. The 36-year-old achieved this after an impressive run to the European Open title, where he upset Jiri Lehecka in the final.

Other Ranking Changes

• Felix Auger-Aliassime re-entered the Top 20 at No. 19.
• Denis Shapovalov continued to slide, now sitting at No. 95.
• Gabriel Diallo made a notable rise, jumping 31 places to No. 87 after reaching the final of the Almaty Open
