It’s safe to say it’s been a busy window at Hotspur Way, with many old faces bidding farewell and fresh competition greeting our beloved players on the training pitch.

Outgoings at Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham have been busy with outgoings this summer, offloading nine senior players permanently and four on loan. The youth squad also saw important minutes out on loan, with Jamie Donley at Leyton Orient and Ashley Phillips getting another season in the Championship, this time with the Potters.

Some may critique the number of free transfers, but sometimes getting the player’s wages off the books is as valuable as the transfer fee itself. Notably, key players from past seasons, such as Pierre-Emile Hojberg and Oliver Skipp, have moved on, raising concerns about the squad’s depth.

Even with this in mind, Johan Lange and Daniel Levy deserve a 9/10 for sales. Spurs have historically struggled with outgoing transfers, but this summer has been a refreshing change. Ange Postecoglou will likely be pleased to see some of these players out of his squad.

Do Tottenham Need More Signings?

The main talking point of our summer has to be the marquee signing of English number nine, Dominic Solanke. With a fee that could rise to £65 million, Tottenham have spent big on what could be seen as Harry Kane’s long-awaited replacement. Solanke netted 21 goals in all competitions last season, justifying the club’s investment.

Tottenham also captured Leeds United wonderkid Archie Gray for £40 million. Although expensive, most associated with the Lilywhites will be thrilled with this new face. Alongside him, 18-year-olds Lucas Bergvall and Min-hyuk Yang, and 19-year-old French winger Wilson Odobert, have joined the squad, signaling Spurs’ intent to build for the future.

Timo Werner returning to Spurs on another season-long loan rounds out our business so far. Ange Postecoglou has emphasized that these young players are here to make an impact now, despite their age.

Is Tottenham’s Squad Ready for the Season Ahead?

With European competition back on the agenda, alongside the usual domestic fixtures, Spurs will be facing a lot more games this season. Have Tottenham done enough in this window to challenge on all fronts?

While the new signings are promising, concerns remain. The squad looks light in some positions, particularly at center-back and left-back. If Van de Ven or Udogie suffer injuries, does Tottenham have adequate replacements?

The attacking depth also raises questions. While the numbers are there, the quality might be lacking. With Brennan Johnson’s inconsistencies and Timo Werner’s finishing woes, Spurs could have brought in one more wide attacker to increase competition.

Final Thoughts: What Should Spurs Do?

Ange Postecoglou has a couple of days left before the transfer window shuts. If it were up to me, I’d target a versatile left-sided defender, comfortable at both left-back and center-back, and perhaps one more right-sided attacking option.

Two suggestions for defense are Mika Mármol of UD Las Palmas or Jayden Oosterwolde of Fenerbahçe. For the wide right, Ernest Nuamah of Olympique Lyon or Gianluca Prestianni of Benfica could be exciting young options. However, I’d lean toward 26-year-old Edon Zhegrova from LOSC Lille, who could bring experience and an eye for goals to the squad.
