Paul Merson Predicts Tottenham vs. Everton Score in Premier League Clash

Both Tottenham Hotspur and Everton will be aiming for their first win of the new Premier League season when they face off in north London on Saturday.

Spurs began their campaign with a 1-1 draw against Leicester City at the King Power Stadium. Pedro Porro’s first-half header was canceled out by Jamie Vardy, leaving Tottenham with just one point from their opener.

Everton’s Struggles

Meanwhile, Everton suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat at Goodison Park against Brighton & Hove Albion. Fabian Hurzeler, in his first game in charge of the Seagulls, made a significant impact, leaving the Toffees with a disappointing start to their season.

Merson’s Prediction: Tottenham to Win

As the teams prepare to meet at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Paul Merson is confident that Ange Postecoglou’s side will be too strong for Everton.

Merson noted that Tottenham failed to capitalize on their first-half dominance against Leicester, allowing the Foxes to grow into the game after halftime.

“I thought Spurs were outstanding in the first half against Leicester,” Merson wrote in his column for Sportskeeda. “However, they didn’t put the game to bed, and it cost them three points. It must have been a very disappointing result for Spurs. They need to be consistent throughout the 90 minutes. Right now, they’re only playing well in patches, and that has to change.”

Despite the setback, Merson predicts a 2-0 victory for Tottenham, believing they won’t miss as many chances as they did against Leicester.

“If they had scored the second goal against Leicester, I think it could’ve even been 4-0 or 5-0. Despite that disappointment, I’m backing Spurs to get a win even though it won’t be easy. Everton can make it hard for them, but I just don’t see Tottenham missing that many chances again. It looks like it’ll be another long season for Sean Dyche’s Everton.”

Chris Sutton also shares Merson’s view, expecting Tottenham to emerge victorious, with Spurs heading into the match as clear favorites.

Contrasting Fortunes for Tottenham and Everton

Tottenham finished fifth last season, a respectable result under their new manager, Ange Postecoglou. The Australian has introduced an exciting style of play and received strong backing in the transfer market, with Dominic Solanke being the standout of their summer signings. Spurs have shown signs of improvement and will aim to build on the foundation laid since Postecoglou’s arrival last summer.

In contrast, Everton are struggling both on and off the pitch. John Textor is reportedly in talks with Everton owner Farhad Moshiri over a potential takeover, as the club faces financial difficulties. On the pitch, Everton’s heavy home defeat to Brighton, under their new manager, does little to inspire confidence among their fans. If things don’t improve soon, Sean Dyche could find himself in another relegation battle, having narrowly avoided the drop last season.
