Murray Joins Djokovic’s Coaching Team on an Indefinite Basis

Novak Djokovic has confirmed that Andy Murray will continue as part of his coaching team on an indefinite basis. This decision opens the possibility of Murray making an appearance at Wimbledon in Djokovic’s box, marking his first return since retirement.

Partnership Extended Until French Open

Djokovic and Murray began their partnership in the build-up to last month’s Australian Open. The 24-time Grand Slam champion revealed that their collaboration is set to continue until at least the French Open, with a potential extension into SW19 this summer.

Djokovic’s Melbourne campaign ended after he retired injured in the semi-final against Alexander Zverev. Following the tournament, Djokovic and Murray took time to reflect on their partnership before deciding to move forward.

“We had a chat the day after I finished the tournament and we reflected on the period we spent together.”

“We agreed he was going to take some time and think, speak with his family members, and see if he decides to keep working.”

“I expressed my desire to continue the collaboration with him, so I am really glad he did accept.”

Coaching Schedule and Future Plans

Djokovic clarified that while the coaching stint is indefinite, they have agreed to work together during the U.S. hard-court season and some clay-court tournaments.

“It is indefinite in terms of how long we are going to work together, but we agreed most likely in the States and some clay-court tournaments. We will see how it goes after that.”

Currently, Djokovic has recovered from a leg injury and is making his comeback at the Qatar Open in Doha. Murray is expected to join him at Indian Wells and Miami next month before the clay-court season leads up to Roland Garros in June.

Murray’s Unique Perspective on Djokovic’s Game

Murray, who retired last year, famously defeated Djokovic in the 2013 Wimbledon final, securing the first of his two Wimbledon titles. With 14 career victories over the Serbian, Murray brings a valuable perspective to Djokovic’s team.

“He obviously has a unique perspective on my game. He has played me and all of the current best players in the world and knows everyone well.”

“He knows exactly what we need to do tactically—the evolution of my game and what needs to be improved.”
