Djokovic Battles Injury Concerns Ahead of Australian Open Semi-Final
Novak Djokovic is wary of his “creaking body” ahead of his Australian Open semi-final clash with Alexander Zverev, despite feeling mentally and emotionally motivated.

Djokovic, 37, required a medical timeout during his quarter-final win over Carlos Alcaraz, returning with his upper left leg taped and on painkillers. He admitted that the injury is similar to one he suffered in 2023, but is taking it “day by day” and focusing on recovery.
A “Super Dangerous” Opponent
Djokovic faces a formidable challenge in Zverev, who is laser-focused on winning his maiden Grand Slam title. The German is at a career-high world number two and has been in impressive form. “I’m playing Zverev, who is in great form, and he is going for his first Grand Slam,” Djokovic said. “He’s been close… He’s super dangerous opponent on this surface against anyone.”
A Record 50th Grand Slam Semi-Final
Djokovic is into a record 50th Grand Slam semi-final and will be seeking to extend his dominance over Zverev, whom he leads 8-4 in their head-to-head. The Serbian star will be relying on his new coach, Andy Murray, to help him devise a game plan to overcome the German.
A Growing Partnership with Andy Murray
Djokovic has been working with Murray since late last year, and the partnership appears to be bearing fruit. “I feel more and more connected with Andy every day,” Djokovic said. “We face challenges every single day… He’s been as committed to my career and this tournament as he can be.”
