Djokovic’s Injury Sparks Debate During Quarter-Final Clash
John McEnroe stirred controversy by suggesting Novak Djokovic’s injury during his quarter-final match against Carlos Alcaraz might not be genuine. The world No. 7 appeared to struggle with his leg, taking an off-court medical timeout while trailing 5-4 in the first set.
Djokovic Leaves Court for Medical Timeout
Djokovic grimaced and pulled up on his leg before leaving the court with the physio. Upon returning, his upper thigh was strapped, but McEnroe was skeptical, urging Alcaraz not to be “fooled.”
“This isn’t the first time we’ve seen this routine,” said McEnroe, commentating alongside his brother Patrick for Channel Nine.
Despite the injury concerns, Alcaraz closed out the first set immediately after Djokovic’s return.
Djokovic Fights Back
The second set saw Djokovic raise his level, taking an early 3-0 lead. Although Alcaraz managed to draw even, the 10-time Australian Open champion regained control, securing the set 6-4.
Patrick McEnroe expressed surprise at Djokovic’s resurgence, asking, “Did you see this coming?”
