Nick Kyrgios Takes Brutal Subtle Shot at Jannik Sinner After Brisbane Singles Loss

Nick Kyrgios has stirred controversy yet again, taking a subtle dig at Jannik Sinner following his loss in the Brisbane International first round. The 29-year-old Australian, known for his outspoken remarks, cheekily pointed out that he remains without a failed doping test on his record—a clear jab at Sinner’s past controversy.

Kyrgios Returns to Singles Action After a Long Hiatus

On Tuesday, Kyrgios played his first singles match since May 2023. Despite an impressive performance that saw him fire 15 aces and avoid being broken, the former Wimbledon finalist ultimately lost to rising French star Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in a nail-biting match:

  • Score: 7-6 (2), 6-7 (4), 7-6 (3)
  • Match Highlights:
    • Kyrgios created just two break-point opportunities, both saved by Mpetshi Perricard.
    • The 21-year-old Frenchman showcased his powerful serve, delivering a staggering 36 aces.

Kyrgios Shades Sinner in Post-Match Remarks

Following the match, Kyrgios reacted to a post on X (formerly Twitter) by journalist Bastian Fachan, who highlighted the tight loss. Kyrgios responded with a laughing emoji and added:

“Still haven’t failed no drug tests tho.”

This comment was a thinly-veiled reference to Jannik Sinner, who has faced scrutiny after failing two doping tests earlier this year. Kyrgios has consistently taken shots at Sinner since the news broke.

Frustration on Court

The match wasn’t without drama. Kyrgios, visibly frustrated by Mpetshi Perricard’s “untouchable serve,” expressed his exasperation during the game:

“Surely you understand my frustration,” he remarked to the umpire, earning a silent warning to mind his language.

Despite his valiant effort, Kyrgios fell short of completing a comeback in the three-set thriller.

What’s Next for Kyrgios?

While his singles run in Brisbane has ended, Kyrgios’ journey isn’t over yet. He will team up with Novak Djokovic in the doubles event—a partnership that promises excitement for fans.
