“I was going through a process of thinking about next season and trying to figure out what I need at this stage of my career,” Djokovic shared.

The 37-year-old explained that after parting ways with coach Goran Ivanisevic in March, he spent six months contemplating his coaching needs. He ultimately concluded that a former world No. 1 and Grand Slam champion like Andy Murray would be the ideal fit.

“It was still a shock decision. It caught [Murray] a little bit off guard… But it’s exciting for tennis,” Djokovic remarked.
