Former British No. 1 Greg Rusedski recently praised Jannik Sinner’s remarkable growth as a player, highlighting what makes the 23-year-old “scary” for his opponents. In an interview with The Tennis Channel, the 1997 US Open runner-up emphasized how quickly Sinner has added new skills to his game, drawing comparisons to other top players like Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic.

“The most impressive thing for me when I was watching the Six Kings Slam was how much Sinner has improved. Even from New York. That is a frightening thought,” Rusedski stated.

Sinner’s Evolving Arsenal

Rusedski specifically pointed out Sinner’s new drop shots and vastly improved volleys, both of which were previously weaker parts of his game:

“The drop shot was something he didn’t have in his arsenal whatsoever, the volleys were average. Those two areas are pretty damn good now and nearly world-class.”

Rusedski believes this constant improvement is what sets Sinner apart and forces other players to stay on their toes.

“Those guys keep adding dimensions. You have to think you have to keep getting better; if you don’t, there is only one direction you are going.”

Sinner’s Impressive 2024 Season

Sinner is enjoying an incredible season, having won two out of the four Grand Slams:

• Australian Open: Defeated Daniil Medvedev in a five-set thriller (3-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3).
• US Open: Secured the title by beating Taylor Fritz in straight sets (6-3, 6-4, 7-5).

His consistency has propelled him to World No. 1, a title he claimed earlier this year during the French Open after Djokovic withdrew due to injury. Sinner’s most recent triumph was at the Shanghai Masters, where he defeated Djokovic in the final (7-6, 6-3), further establishing himself as a dominant force in men’s tennis.
