“Our Hearts Ache” – Rafael Nadal, Carlos Alcaraz Send Messages of Strength as Storm Dana Devastates Spain

Rafael Nadal, Carlos Alcaraz, and Paula Badosa Express Solidarity with Storm Victims

Spain’s tennis stars Rafael Nadal, Carlos Alcaraz, and Paula Badosa have sent heartfelt messages of strength and support after tropical storm Dana caused catastrophic flooding in Spain. The storm unleashed flash floods on Spain’s eastern coast, with cities like Valencia receiving a year’s worth of rainfall in just eight hours.

What is Storm Dana?

Dana, short for Depresión Aislada en Niveles Altos (meaning “isolated low-pressure system at upper levels”), struck eastern and southern Spain earlier this week. The storm brought torrential rain and severe flooding to major population centers, causing road closures and halting rail services.

Tragically, reports indicate that at least 95 people have lost their lives due to the flooding, with the search for survivors still underway.

Messages from Spain’s Tennis Icons

In response to the crisis, some of Spain’s biggest tennis stars shared their compassion and prayers on social media:

  • Carlos Alcaraz tweeted:
“All my love to those who have lost loved ones due to Dana and much strength to those who continue to search for the missing.”
  • Rafael Nadal expressed:
“Today has been a sad day with the suffering and pain caused by Dana in our country. Our hearts ache when we see the images. My love and encouragement to all those who have suffered the loss of family and friends. Strength and courage to all.”
  • Paula Badosa wrote:
“Much encouragement and strength to all the victims affected by the tremendous torrential rains.”

In addition to her message, Badosa partnered with the Red Cross, making a financial donation to assist victims. She encouraged others to join her in contributing:
