Nick Kyrgios Launches Fresh Attack on Jannik Sinner After Novak Djokovic Triumph

Nick Kyrgios has once again voiced his opinions on Jannik Sinner, who recently triumphed over Novak Djokovic in the Shanghai Masters final. The Australian player’s criticism stems from Sinner’s avoidance of a drugs ban earlier this year.

Sinner’s Doping Controversy

In March, Sinner tested positive for the banned anabolic steroid Clostebol at the Indian Wells tournament. However, the International Tennis Integrity Agency cleared him of any fault, claiming his samples were contaminated due to a massage he received from his physiotherapist. The masseur had a cut on his hand that was treated with a steroid spray, leading to accidental contamination of Sinner’s samples.

Sinner avoided a suspension, but WADA (World Anti-Doping Association) has since appealed the decision, bringing the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport. Despite the controversy, Sinner continues to play, recently claiming his seventh title of the season by defeating Djokovic 7-6, 6-3 in Shanghai.

Kyrgios’ Outspoken Criticism

In response to Sinner’s success, Kyrgios has been openly critical of the Italian. Following the Shanghai Masters, a user on X (formerly Twitter) posted:

“Every player beaten by Jannik Sinner must be thinking the same thing. This f**** shouldn’t even be on the court right now.”*

Kyrgios agreed, responding with:
“Yep. Ridiculous lol.”

This isn’t the first time Kyrgios has called out Sinner regarding the doping situation. Back in August, Kyrgios posted:

“Ridiculous – whether it was accidental or planned. You get tested twice with a banned (steroid) substance… you should be gone for 2 years.”

The WADA Appeal and Future of Sinner

WADA’s appeal against Sinner’s clearance remains pending, with the tennis community watching closely. Meanwhile, Kyrgios continues to express doubts about Sinner’s place in the sport, questioning the fairness of his continued participation.

Sinner, however, is focusing on his game. Following the doping saga, he stated:

“I will now put this challenging and deeply unfortunate period behind me. I will continue to do everything I can to ensure I comply with the ITIA’s anti-doping programme.”
