Spurs Loan Watch: A Great Week for Tottenham Youngster
Ashley Phillips has had a stellar week with his loan club, Stoke City, securing two wins in as many games. Here’s how the Tottenham youngster performed:
Two Wins for Stoke City
Phillips and Stoke City made it two victories from two, with their latest being a 1-0 away win against Plymouth Argyle, managed by Wayne Rooney. This follows their impressive 5-0 victory over Middlesbrough in the second round of the Carabao Cup.
Despite extensive travel across the country this week, Stoke City maintained their momentum. Phillips started both games in central defense, partnering with Stoke City captain Ben Wilmot in the latest match, after being paired with fellow teenager Jaden Dixon during the cup tie.
Consistent Performances
In both games, Phillips was substituted with around 15 minutes remaining—76 minutes in on Tuesday and 74 minutes in today. He was replaced by the experienced Ben Gibson in the most recent match.
During his 74 minutes on the pitch against Plymouth Argyle, Phillips recorded the following stats:

- Seven Clearances
- One Interception
- 5/7 Ground Duels Won
- Four Fouls Won
- 1/1 Successful Dribbles
Interestingly, despite standing at around 6’4″, Phillips lost both aerial duels but was dominant in ground duels and even completed a dribble.
Clean Sheets and Rising Table Position
Although Phillips was substituted before Stoke’s winning goal, he played enough minutes (60+) in both matches to be credited with clean sheets. This comes after being an unused substitute in Stoke’s 2-1 home defeat to West Bromwich Albion last weekend.
With these victories, Stoke City has climbed to 10th in the Championship table, just one point away from the play-off spots.
Upcoming Fixtures and International Duty
Next on the schedule for Stoke is a match against Dane Scarlett and Oxford United after the international break. In the meantime, Phillips has been called up to the England U20 squad for friendly games against Turkiye and Romania next month. Notably, Scarlett has also been included in the squad, meaning they could soon be playing both with and against each other.
