Tottenham Hotspur have officially announced the signing of Burnley star Wilson Odobert after the 19-year-old completed a medical with the North London club on Thursday.

Odobert Becomes Tottenham’s Fifth Signing

Odobert is set to become Spurs’ fifth signing of the season, following Archie Gray, Lucas Bergvall, Dominic Solanke, and Min-hyeok Yang. This transfer could prove to be an excellent addition to the squad. The move came as a major shock, with Tottenham’s interest in the player only being reported 30 minutes before the official announcement by journalist Sacho Tavolieri.

“We are delighted to announce that we have reached agreement for the permanent transfer of Wilson Odobert from Burnley, subject to formalities,” Tottenham posted on their official X page.

Renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed that Tottenham will pay £25m plus £5m in add-ons for Odobert, with Burnley set to receive 10% of any future sale. Odobert will don the No. 29 shirt for Spurs.

The young talent can operate as an attacking midfielder or winger and delivered impressive performances in the Premier League last season, despite Burnley’s relegation. The teenager even scored in Burnley’s Championship opener against Luton Town on Monday night, just before sealing his surprise move to Tottenham.

Tottenham Join Race for Piero Hincapie

Odobert will be competing with the likes of Heung-min Son, Dejan Kulusevski, and James Maddison this season, and he has the potential to evolve into a top-quality player. However, Tottenham’s business won’t stop there, as Ange Postecoglou is reportedly keen to bring in a new centre-back.

Ecuadorian outlet El Comercio claims that Tottenham are set to join the race for Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie. The 22-year-old played a key role in Leverkusen’s title-winning 2023/24 campaign, making 43 appearances and helping his side achieve 20 clean sheets.

Competition for Hincapie’s Signature

Bayern Munich and Liverpool have also expressed interest in Hincapie, but they will face stiff competition from Spurs. Hincapie’s contract with Leverkusen is valid until 2027, and reports suggest that Xabi Alonso has personally requested the player to stay.

The Ecuadorian defender is valued at around £65m, and it remains to be seen whether Tottenham is willing to meet this valuation.

Postecoglou already has strong centre-back options, including Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, and Radu Dragusin. However, reports indicate that Romero could leave after this season, making Hincapie a potential long-term replacement.
