Southampton Manager Trying to Convince Tottenham Target Kyle Walker-Peters to Stay
Southampton boss Russel Martin has admitted that the club is doing everything possible to keep Kyle Walker-Peters, despite ongoing rumors linking the right-back with a move to Tottenham Hotspur. Martin acknowledged that while they are making efforts to retain Walker-Peters, the player’s future at Southampton is still uncertain.
Tottenham’s Potential Need for a New Right-Back
With Emerson Royal completing a move to AC Milan, Tottenham might need to strengthen their right-back position. Recent reports from GiveMeSport suggest that Spurs could explore re-signing Walker-Peters, who left Tottenham for Southampton in 2020.
Walker-Peters, who has just a year left on his contract with the Saints, is reportedly valued at £20 million. The 27-year-old is seen as a potential asset for Tottenham, not only to boost their homegrown player numbers but also because he fits well with Ange Postecoglou’s system.
Southampton’s Efforts to Retain Walker-Peters
Russel Martin has provided some insight into the ongoing discussions between Southampton and Walker-Peters. Speaking to BBC Sport, Martin said:
“We’re in discussions with him and he will make a decision based on his career. It won’t be because we don’t want to keep him or haven’t tried to. We are trying to keep him here for the longer term. Short term, I hope he’s here for the season, whatever happens. It’s not ideal for someone to be in the last year.”

Tottenham’s Transfer Strategy
Considering Tottenham’s current squad, it might not make much sense for the club to sign another right-back, as Djed Spence and Archie Gray can both cover for Pedro Porro.
It seems more likely that Postecoglou might prioritize signing a left-back to cover for Destiny Udogie, potentially using Ben Davies as a backup for central defense.
