Tottenham Investigating Yves Bissouma’s Laughing Gas Video as Midfielder Issues Apology – “I Understand How Serious This Is”

Tottenham midfielder Yves Bissouma has issued an apology for what he describes as a “severe lack of judgment” after being filmed apparently inhaling laughing gas just days before the start of the new Premier League season. The incident is under investigation by Spurs, and Bissouma could face disciplinary action.

The Mali international posted a video on Snapchat that seemed to show him inhaling from a balloon, which is believed to have contained nitrous oxide, commonly known as laughing gas. The UK government classified nitrous oxide as a Class C drug last year, making possession for recreational use an offense as part of the country’s anti-social behavior action plan.

Following the incident, which was first reported by The Sun, Bissouma apologized and acknowledged the health risks associated with his actions.

“I want to apologize for these videos. This was a severe lack of judgment,” he stated. “I understand how serious this is and the health risks involved, and I also take my responsibility as a footballer and role model very seriously.”

Tottenham has confirmed that they are investigating the matter. The 27-year-old midfielder may face internal consequences for his actions.

Bissouma played 45 minutes for Spurs in a friendly against Bayern Munich at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium earlier on Saturday, a match they lost 3-2. Tottenham is scheduled to kick off the new Premier League season next Monday night when they travel to face newly promoted Leicester City at the King Power Stadium.

“We are looking into the events,” a Tottenham spokesperson said. “This will be dealt with as an internal matter.”

Bissouma joined Spurs in the summer of 2022 from Brighton in a deal worth around £30 million. Since then, he has made over 50 appearances for the club across all competitions, including 26 starts under current boss Ange Postecoglou last season.
