Dominic Solanke has completed his medical at Tottenham ahead of a £65 million move from Bournemouth, setting a new club record for Spurs. The 26-year-old striker, who is under contract at Vitality Stadium until 2029, had his hefty release clause triggered by the North London club.

Solanke enjoyed his best Premier League season to date last year, scoring 19 goals and playing a key role in Bournemouth’s impressive 12th-place finish. Spurs, looking to strengthen their options in the No. 9 position, identified Solanke as a prime target.

Tottenham’s pursuit of Solanke is partly motivated by the departure of Harry Kane to Bayern Munich in a £100 million move last summer, leaving the team without a natural striker. Solanke’s arrival would fill that gap, giving manager Ange Postecoglou a reliable option up front.

Liverpool, Solanke’s former club, will benefit from the transfer thanks to a 20% sell-on clause, potentially earning around £9 million from the deal. Solanke originally joined Bournemouth from Liverpool for an undisclosed fee after a stint at Anfield between 2017 and 2019.

Despite interest from other clubs, including Chelsea, the significant release clause had been a stumbling block for many suitors. However, Spurs were determined to secure Solanke, making him a priority signing this summer.

In addition to Solanke, Tottenham has also strengthened their squad by bringing in young midfielders Archie Gray from Leeds and Lucas Bergvall from Djurgarden.

Solanke’s tally of 21 goals in all competitions last season outperformed current Spurs forwards Son Heung-min, who scored 17, and Richarlison, who netted 11 times. Despite narrowly missing out on England’s Euro 2024 squad, Solanke is poised to take the next big step in his career with Tottenham.
