Tottenham Hotspur Continues Pre-Season Success with 2-0 Victory Over QPR

Tottenham Hotspur secured another pre-season win with a 2-0 victory over Championship side Queens Park Rangers on Saturday afternoon. Manager Ange Postecoglou is intensifying preparations for his second season as Tottenham’s boss, and recent performances have been encouraging.

Following a 5-1 win against Hearts in Scotland on Wednesday, Spurs traveled to West London to face QPR. Yves Bissouma opened the scoring in the first half, followed by a goal from Dane Scarlett in the second half, securing a 2-0 win for Tottenham.

Ange Postecoglou on Yves Bissouma

The standout moment of the match came from Bissouma, who scored a remarkable goal. Picking up the ball 30 yards from goal, Bissouma maneuvered past a QPR player, executed a slick one-two with Dejan Kulusevski, and rounded goalkeeper Paul Nardi to score. This was Bissouma’s first goal for Spurs since joining from Brighton and Hove Albion two years ago.

Despite his non-goalscoring reputation, Bissouma’s performance caught the attention of Postecoglou. Speaking to Tottenham’s official website, Postecoglou expressed hope that the display would boost Bissouma’s confidence but emphasized the need for such performances in competitive matches.

Postecoglou’s Comments

“Yeah, but it is only a friendly,” Postecoglou said. “I want to see him do it in a game. He’s capable of it. That’s our challenge for all our guys. We know the capabilities are there, but we’ve got to produce it when it counts. He was good today, he’s been good in pre-season, and we’ve just got to keep pushing him,” he added.

Make or Break Season Ahead for Bissouma

Bissouma’s arrival at Tottenham two years ago came with high expectations. Analysts like Paul Merson and Jamie Redknapp praised the signing. However, Bissouma’s time at Tottenham has been inconsistent. He struggled for regular playing time under Antonio Conte but showed promise under Postecoglou at the start of last season, only for his form to fade later.

Inconsistencies and Future Prospects

Reports in May indicated that Tottenham might consider selling Bissouma if a suitable offer came. With Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg headed to Marseille and interest in Joao Gomes not materializing, Bissouma is likely to start the upcoming season. At 27, entering his third season with Tottenham and seventh in the Premier League, Bissouma needs to consistently showcase his talent.

Postecoglou and Spurs fans will be hoping that Saturday’s superb goal is a sign of more to come as the Premier League season approaches.
